Hurricane-force winds destroyed houses, schools and entire food crops on the island of Koro in Fiji.

Nearly two years on, families are still recovering from Cyclone Winston.

Cyclone Winston destroyed everything

Gloria can tell you exactly what it was like when Cyclone Winston hit. Her village is metres from the coast on the island of Koro in Fiji, so there was nothing to block the ferocious winds and driving rains. Nothing was spared.

The water reached as high as the coconut palms. Vegetable crops rotted in the ground. Parents had nothing to feed their children.

Whatever food supplies that weren’t wiped out by the cyclone’s high winds were rendered useless by the floods that followed.

Children still don't have fresh food to eat. You can help feed children like Gloria who have gone so long without good food.

Cyclone season is about to start in November. Gloria and her family are afraid of what might happen when the next one hits. After their awful experiences in Cyclone Winston, they want to make sure they don’t lose everything again.

Chickens

A flock of laying hens will provide an easy source of protein each day for growing children.

Beehives

Bees will not only provide honey for villages to sell at the market, but will also help revive the coconut palms that were decimated by the cyclone.

This is how you can help children like Gloria

Crops

Planting crops that can withstand extreme weather will mean families can be sure there will be food to eat even when the next cyclone hits.

School gardens

By establishing school gardens, you will make sure that children get nutritious lunches made with produce they have grown.
